My story

Last year I ran 70k over 7 days - so this year I decided to up the ante and go for 80km over 8 days. I've chosen 80km to mark the fact that Christian Aid is 80 years old this year.

Christian Aid was founded in 1945 after the second world war - set up by various Christian denominations across the UK and Ireland to respond, on their behalf, to the refugee crisis across Europe. For 80 years since that time, we have been tackling issues of poverty and injustice around the world - helping those who are marginalised and suffering because of inherent inequalities.

I have been able to visit and see some of our projects in Sierra Leone and Honduras, and have been inspired by my colleagues, the partner organisations we work with - and people like Hawa, Isata, Juanita, Noemi and Candida who are working so hard to overcome the challenges they face.

Your support can help families around the world overcome challenges such as humanitarian disasters, the changing climate wreaking havoc on harvests, economic pressures or violence against women. For example, just £20 could buy two pounds of climate-resilient seeds, diversifying a family’s crop and increasing their resilience against the effects of the climate crisis.

How your money helps

This Christian Aid Week, you can support communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

In places like Guatemala, extreme weather is destroying crops, deepening hunger and threatening livelihoods. But with the right tools and training, farmers can build sustainable futures.

Every pound you raise could help:

  • Provide climate-resilient seeds to help families grow food.
  • Fund water conservation techniques to protect crops.
  • Support vital training so farmers can build a sustainable future.
